Saturday at my brothers

I went up to my brother's house today to help with the baby's crib, I thought I'd be going to a birthday party afterwards but we played the Wii for while instead, it's a fun little game, anyway this is me and Mats my brother's dog. I have to say you can get some decent swish when you play Wii in a kilt. It was a fun night, and I'm sure to get pics the next time I'm up there of the swish while playing.

Wednesday ritual

This Morning I went up to see my aunt Jean and as I have to go to work later in the day dressed for work. It was a good wee chat with her and we went and got her shopping done. Dancing last night was a great time and it was wonderful to see some old friends and do some dancing, the evening seemed to end far to quickly for me, and I'm not sure when I can go again due to my shifting schedule.

So I am wearing my Royal Naval Association Tartan, my Lovat Blue Argyll the shirt is an Omega with cuff-links by Kenneth Cole the tie is a Navy House of Edgar tie my Ferguson Britt Skunk Sporran the kilt pin is from Kiltgoodies, the Lovat Blue hose I bought at a local tartan shop I'm wearing my Dress Belt with my Graham Clan buckle and my sgian dubh is from the Sgian Dubh Company.

A cool day, for Dancing in the Park

Tonight is The RSCDS Toronto Dancing in the Park. As a budding Scottish Country Dancer I do intend to make it, with this new schedule at work I shall be cutting it close, perhaps I'll change out of my chosen outfit as it is not all that Dance friendly, but then again it will be cool this evening best to bring an alternative.

I'm wearing my 5 yard Dress MacDonald from Burnett's & Struth with Black Hawick hose and Red Garter ties from the Scottish Tartan Museum, the Black shirt is from Report the tie is from the House of Edgar line I picked it up along with the Charcoal Breamer Jacket and Waistcoat and Ghillie Brogues at Caringorm Scottish Imports, the kilt pin is from Kiltgoodies the sporran is my Ferguson Britt Skunk and the sgian dubh is from ebay.

Monday already

Well here it is Monday again, I went into work on the New Schedule, it was good a day, here is the outfit I wore, they were calling for rain so I took my Lovat Blue Argyll of course it didn't rain so I brought it for nothing and it was so warm I just carried it with me. Anyway the outfit is my Isle of Skye with the Hawick Ancient Scot Argyll top hose the Ferguson Britt Muskrat sporran purple shirt with my House of Edgar Navy wool tie, and the Lovat Green garter ties from the Scottish Tartan Museum.

Like I said it was a good day however I am glad to be home, the danger of course of taking the pictures with a tripod and timer is that every once in while I cut my head off, just did not feel like re-shooting it.

Kilt Night out to see Hunting McLeod

Well tonight I went out to see Hunting McLeod with some friends as always it was a good show, Hunting McLeod is always a good show, ti was also good to see some friends again and be introduced to some new people, There were some people at the pub who had earned money for the Canadian Cancer Society, they raised over $2000.00 for shaving a few heads, it was nice to meet them.

This is what I wore tonight my Royal Navy Tartan, with a Blue Shirt, Hawick Hose and my Ferguson Britt skunk sporran.

Wear Red Fridays

Today is wear Red Fridays so I've decided to wear the Ulster Scot tartan with a Red shirt the Argyll top hose from the Hawick Hose company, I thought the bottle Green with the Red hose and Yellow garter ties gave the outfit some balance, I am also wearing my Muskrat Ferguson Britt Sporran, and the Antler handled Sgian Dubh from the Sgian Dubh company, I'll most likely leave it at home as taking it to work could be a problem. I also thought that the Brown Tweed Argyll might break up the Red a wee bit, however it gets warm inside a Harris Tweed Argyll so not sure how long I'll wear it for, have a Great Friday.

Thursday, May 22, 2008

Well it's going to be another day of the new Schedule
today, I've decided to wear my Black Stewart from USA Kilts with the Argyll top Hawick Hose from Redshanks Scotland, the Stewart Clan crest shirt, and red garter ties that I got from the Scottish Tartan Museum, the belt I made myself from supplies that I got at Tandy Leather and my Freelander sporran. I'm going in at 11:00 and I'll be there until 7:30.

First day of the new Schedule

My work schedule has changed for the next couple of weeks so I'm at work during the week, it seemed like a long day, as I go in at 11:00am and am there until 7:30pm. I ended up getting a bit of a headache I think it was a combination of the weather and the fact that my schedule has changed. As I was going in to work I thought I'd dress for it today so this is what I wore to work, my Royal Naval Tartan with my Lovat Blue Argyll my Ferguson Britt skunk sporran with Hawick Saltire Hose, the shirt is not a solid blue rather it is made up of white and blue, the tie is a navy blue one from the House of Edgar range, I have found over the past year that if you are to wear a tie with your kilt the best thing to do is to go to your local tartan shop and get your ties there not only can you match the colour to your tartan but they are the correct length for wearing with a kilt.

When I got home I had some advil so for now the headache is gone. I think tomorrow I'll not wear something as dressy as I ended up on my feet for most of the day, perhaps one of the 4 yard box pleats are in order.

High Praise Indeed

It seems I can't post pictures at the moment, however I thought I'd share this email I asked Hamish Bicknell if I could reproduce it here and he graciously agreed, a few days ago I invited Ham to take a look at this fledgling blog of mine, here is what he wrote back.

Hi Glen,

Thank you for the link to your blog (I don't know where you get the time to do such things!!). I am honoured that you should invite me to read it and I now have it bookmarked for future visits. You have got it off to a splendid start and I am touched that you should include the super photo of your "Maple Leaf Hamish". Not only is it a very acceptable 'Hamish' (!), but you have the outfit colour co-ordinated to a tee - it's really effective. In fact, seeing several of your images in close proximity like that, makes me realise what a particularly good eye you have for colour and visual balance ...... it must be your artistic bent shining through. Good work, my friend.

It's again very late - almost 2,00am - and I must get some sleep.

Thanks again for everything, Glen.

Take care,
Ham.

For those of you that do not know Hamish has been kilted for 9 years now, his sense of style and balance really are the benchmark for many kilted gentlemen. He is also very generous in helping out fledgling kilt wearers who have questions regarding an outfit. I know Ham's photo gallery is being updated, as soon as that is done I will of course link to it.

Thanks again Ham for the kind words.

Crazy Thursday

Well today was suppose to be a relaxing day, go out to lunch with the folks as my birthday was Tuesday, and thats about it, well not so, I went out there we had lunch then somehow I ended up helping them move some stuff into the new place, after that I ended up having to go into downtown TO to pick up my twin Brother from work as his baby is sick and his wife was busy with her, anyway after I get him home and have something to eat he asks me to hook up his Wii, so I'm just getting back home now. It was all a bit unexpected.

This is what I wore today no real comments or anything, so I'm wearing my Scotland Rugby team jersey with my X-Marksthescot.com tartan from Canadian Casual Kilts the hose were from ebay as were the yellow garter ties, the sporran is my Thorfinn again with the matching tartan flap the belt and sporran strap I made myself.

Wednesday and Aunt Jean again

I am going up to my Aunt's again today, we are getting rid of some unwanted clothes, for both of us at Goodwill. As for the outfit today I was inspired by The Wizard of BC, another member of the kilt wearers forum
xmarksthescot
to try the Isle of Skye kilt with brown accessories, I've owned this kilt for over a year now and it remains a favourite but I never thought of pairing it up with brown hose etc. I really like the way it looks as the Isle of Skye is a subtle tartan the subdued tones of the brown hose, leathers, and Argyll really do work well for smart day-wear.

So for the details of the outfit, I am wearing my Isle of Skye 16oz 8 yard kilt, Lochcarron brown hose, lovat green garter ties from the Scottish Tartan Museum, My Brown Harris Tweed Argyll, the tie I'm wearing is an interesting wool one I found at my local tartan shop. The Sporran is my Thorfinn Sporran with a matching Isle of Skye flap, and the sgian dubh is from the Sgian Dubh co.

Monday, May 12, 2008

So here I am trying a pose known in some parts of the kilt world as a Hamish MrkI, this is the outfit I wore to work today. My Maple Leaf 5 yard Kilt in Poly Viscous from Canadian Casual Kilts

Peter from CCK has made a few kilts for me and has become a friend, if you are looking for a quality machine sewn kilt in P.V. Peter is a great guy to go talk to. The picture was taken as most of these have been by timer and a tripod, I've just got the tripod recently and am still getting used to the fact that there is nobody actually taking the picture, so some of my expressions are a bit weird. I'm sure I'll be able to trust Tri once I get to know him.

So I'm wearing the Maple Leaf Tartan, My Thorfinn Sporran with the matching tartan flap, the hose, and garter ties I got off ebay the shirt was a gift from my brother, no sgian as I rarely wear one to work.

I've had a busy day I moved into a new place, middle of last month, and today I had a bunch of furniture delivered so I've been a bit busy setting up the new TV couches and dinning room set.

Sunday, May 11, 2008

Being that it's Mother's Day we all went out to my brother's house for dinner, I've just recently got home, here are some photos.

The outfit I wore, Isle of Skye, with Hawick Ancient Scot Argyll top hose, Fergusson Brit Skunk Sporran, Penelope, my purple shirt, a Glen Esk Sgian Dubh, and the Lovat Blue Argyll jacket that I bought from a friend. I really like this jacket.

It was a good night with the family.

A rug for the new place

Well I've been back for a bit today my aunt gave me a rug that her and my uncle had, I've just moved so any furniture is gratefully accepted, anyway with my love of all things Scottish, and Robert Burns, earlier on this year I was lucky enough to do the Immortal Memory at a Burns night with friends, I was very pleased to get this rug from her.

Wednesday and Aunt Jean

Every Wednesday I go up to my Aunt's house and take her shopping she's never had a car or drivers licence, since my Uncle passed away late last year I've taken it upon myself to do this as I have a weird work schedule I have days off in the middle of the week. Anyway here is what I'm wearing today to go up there, remember I told you I wear a kilt everyday?

For those that want the details of the outfit, I'm wearing my Royal Naval Association Tartan, 8 yard 16 oz knife pleated kilt, hand sewn by Barb Tewksbury, with an Arran Sweater and kilt hose from Hector Russell, the Sporran is a Freelander Sporran, hand made in Norway, the kilt pin was Hand made by Robin from Kiltgoodies he is from the Netherlands, the sgian dubh is one from the sgian dubh company and the shoes are from Kenneth Cole. I'll try to give an update once I get home.

First entry

Well not sure what to say here, but decided that this might be good idea. I'll update this when I can mostly just ramblings from my mind. We'll see where this goes, it could be fun. I should tell you a few things about myself, I've been wearing a kilt for the past year everyday, and in Canada some days in the winter you might think I'm crazy but I've always been warmer than those around me in jeans.

I think this will just become a diary of a daily kilt wearer, there are comments good and bad from people I run into and I'll share those with you here as well as my own unique experience with kilt wearing.

So lets see where this takes us.
